If you have not already done so, try to get up to Glacier Bay in Southeast Alaska while it is still there. Only two hundred years ago the area was under a 4000' thick glacier, which has since retreated at an unsurpassed speed, leaving in its wake a 65-mile-long wilderness of newborn fjords and shores surrounding what has become Glacier Bay. The sudden, thundering crash of chunks of calving glaciers tumbling into the bay will provide some idea of how rapidly this landscape is changing as the earth warms.
