As recently as a quarter-century ago, mainstream science was still unwilling to embrace the fact that continents are on the move. Now even school children know that India rammed Asia to form the Himalayas, the Atlantic has been expanding - separating North and South America from Europe and Africa - for over 200 million years, and that all continents were once joined, forming a super-continent which is now remembered as Pangea. I recently attended a local lecture and learned that rocks in Arizona were once adjacent to rocks in Antarctica!
